Sounds like 50,000 violations of COPPA to me, but hey, consequences are only for us peasants.

So I know a data leak is serious, but I can’t help but think “what’s a chat log with a toddler actually look like?”

"Da ba up up upppp! Mik wa mik. Wah du ree yahhhh! Wush."

At least, that's what my toddler just said.

Canceled

So, there’s no copy of it anywhere and the company denies it ever happened?

Ok. So not a leak, then? A rumor of a leak?

Bondu “found no evidence of access beyond the researchers involved.”

Security researches found the data and the company said that they found no proof that other people besides the researchers had accessed it.

The word "leak" is misleading. Does it become a leak when attackers CAN access it or when they HAVE accessed it?

These things are obviously a terrible idea, but I can't help thinking that toddlers aren't going to have a lot of important information that anyone cares about.

Bondu’s web-based portal, ..., also let anyone with a Gmail account access transcripts of virtually every conversation Bondu’s child users have ever had with the toy.”

In this case, the included exposed data included kids’ names, birth dates, family member names, and even the detailed summaries and transcripts of every previous chat between the child and their Bondu stuffed animals.

Anyone with a Gmail account knowing who lives where with whom? Ya, super unproblematic in the times of Adolf Trump and his SS ICE.

No but toddlers are usually supervised by adults
