Internally, workers from several companies describe a culture of silence and fear — and trepidation over what kind of future they’re helping to build.

Just don’t?

I exited out of big tech for this reason. It’s more fun and I’m not doing anything remotely evil.

I get paid enough to be happy, I’m not constantly worrying about my RSUs and options. I’m not doing quarterly impact reviews. I get to actually complete projects based on my own timelines, and the stuff I build results in people who use it sending me happy messages about how I made their job better.

Just FYI, you can always talk with your coworkers informally outside of work and just agree to sandbag until the political situation improves. Just everyone do the BARE minimum. Take no initiative, do only what's mission critical, and if asked, Just say you've got a lot on your plate, or just tell them honestly ,"everything costs more now, so I can no longer afford to give the same effort that I had been giving.

Most of the time you don't even need to talk to your coworkers. Most of them are probably already doing it
