For a country whom just had their Attorney General justify the president being a pedophile because the Dow is up slightly you'd think they'd be appluading Eileen for getting paid.

who benefited from our education system

Oh JD, that's not something to be celebrated.

who will read hear

This is such an easy indicator of how stupid someone is. If they are only posting videos or clearly didn't read an article past the headline, you know which side they're on.

“So, I’m going to root for American athletes, and I think part of that is people who identify themselves as Americans. That’s who I’m rooting for this Olympics.”

So he's saying you can choose how to identify...?

Shut up, James.

I'm not a JD fan but I don't really quite understand how and why she is representing China. She is Chinese American yes but per Olympic rules, she has to have citizenship in the country she is representing but it doesnt seem like she does?? China does not permit dual citizenship?

Whats to stop other countries then from bribing other top athletes to represent them?

I can understand not representing the USA but to choose China next? Whats after that? Russia? Saudi Arabia?

erythrina@piefed.blahaj.zone · 31 pts · 183d (6 replies)

Her mother was Chinese, so it's not like it came out of nowhere. And it may well be safer for her in China than to be a person of color in the United States these days.

FiniteBanjo@feddit.online · 1 pts · 183d (5 replies)

"Safer than in the USA" is an incredibly low bar, but it's interesting her family was allowed to return to China after leaving.

It helps she’s winning them gold medals

lolrightythen@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 183d

This would be my guess. An american throwing shade at the US VP while winning golds for China would be an embarrassment to any other presidency.

some_designer_dude@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 183d (1 reply)

I can’t tell if this is about China or USA.

frongt@lemmy.zip · 1 pts · 182d

That's the joke

Typotyper@sh.itjust.works · 11 pts · 183d

Well if you read the article...her mom is from China.

ruekk@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 183d (5 replies)

You act like China isn't the next "leader of the free world" with America going to shit.

frongt@lemmy.zip · 3 pts · 182d

China has no interest in leading the world. They would prefer if the entire world was Han Chinese.

FiniteBanjo@feddit.online · -2 pts · 182d (3 replies)

China will be the next USSR. Not a leader, a conqueror.

erythrina@piefed.blahaj.zone · 1 pts · 182d (2 replies)

Do they want to conquer the world? They want back territory that was part of China in the past and they have broad ideas about "protecting" themselves, but I've never heard that they're expansionist.

Soulg@ani.social · 2 pts · 182d

While I'm not convinced they're going to try to conquer the world per se, the entirety of the belt and road initiative is about spreading their influence and putting countries in their debt.
