Skunk - Fire type because of the tail shape. Easy to see the tale as fire and it's scent gland used as a flamethrower.

Raccoon - Water type because racoons like to wash their food in water, when convenient. Look up videos of people giving them packing peanuts if you want a heartbreak.

Opossum - Grass type because they like to hang out in trees. That tail is prime vine whip material too!

Skuntank can, in fact, learn Flamethrower.

JcbAzPx@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 182d

And its original animation has it coming from exactly where you'd think.

njm1314@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 183d (1 reply)

See I was thinking skunk as the grass poison type cuz you know poison gas.

DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social · 1 pts · 182d

Water, the spray is a liquid.

Pokemon logic makes any of them work though.

Pat_Riot@lemmy.today · 29 pts · 184d

Based on how Pikachu first behaved for Ash, not the skunk. Trash Panda, I choose you!

python@lemmy.world · 19 pts · 184d (1 reply)

Opposum is the clear winner. Their little human-like grabby hands are a great asset plus as a marsupial they can carry my loot in their pouch.

Crazyslinkz@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 184d

They are also immune to rabbies.

Wisens@discuss.tchncs.de · 15 pts · 184d (2 replies)

If a Pokemon game was set in Arkansas.

DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social · 4 pts · 183d (1 reply)

Unironically a good idea

Wisens@discuss.tchncs.de · 3 pts · 183d

The region would be abnormally high in crystal Pokemon.

troglodytis@lemmy.world · 12 pts · 183d

Keep walking and poof armadillo

null@lemmy.org · 12 pts · 184d

The opossum has low offense, but it doesn't need much with such a massive type advantage with all its resistances.

ickplant@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 183d (5 replies)

The skunk should be a bat. We need a flying type.

swab148@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 12 pts · 183d (4 replies)

As a starter? Are you mad? We have to catch one just outside of the first town, it's tradition!

ickplant@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 183d (3 replies)

Ok, fine, I confess. I just really like bats…

KokusnussRitter@discuss.tchncs.de · 2 pts · 182d (2 replies)

Vampire spotted >.> [bats are cool tho]

ickplant@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 182d (1 reply)

Nah, just the !bats@lemmy.world community mod 😂

KokusnussRitter@discuss.tchncs.de · 2 pts · 182d

I say the plot thickens!! XD

dejected_warp_core@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 183d (2 replies)
POSSUM used Play Dead.

It's not very effective...
TRBoom@lemmy.zip · 5 pts · 183d (1 reply)

No no, it should cause a status down like tail whip.

Jyek@sh.itjust.works · 5 pts · 183d

I would assume defense down.

panda_abyss@lemmy.ca · 8 pts · 184d

I’ve heard skunks are actually quite well tempered, but I don’t bless if I can deal with the smell.

WalrusDragonOnABike@reddthat.com · 6 pts · 184d (3 replies)

Baby skunks are adorable. Never gonna let it evolve.

QuantumSparkles@sh.itjust.works · 5 pts · 184d (2 replies)

A lot of Pokémon have better first and mid evolutions than final. I always wished there was an item or something to give a boost to unevolved Pokémon to keep them viable so I don’t have to lose my cute bulbasaur or ivysaur to a hideous venusaur, or my beautiful dragonair to that doofy looking dragonite

FreeBeard@slrpnk.net · 4 pts · 183d (1 reply)

The item exists and is called Evolite. It only boosts defence though.

QuantumSparkles@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 182d

Sorry, what I meant was that it does that and keeps them from evolving, at the same time. And evolite doesn’t make them anywhere close to on par with evolved forms, from what I remember

KokusnussRitter@discuss.tchncs.de · 5 pts · 182d

Trash panda, I choose you. Let's do crime together!!! Mostly victimless... mostly...

Draconic_NEO@pawb.social · 2 pts · 183d

Opposum! I choose you!

Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 183d

I choose opposum! Very little chance of rabbies. Also 11/10 spunk.

PumpkinSkink@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 181d

Great. Normal, Normal, and Normal Poison. When we said we wanted new Starter types this is not what we meant, Gamefreak.
