To put it in perspective that is about 40% of the reserve!

Yeah, I recall it was down to 400 mil barrels already thanks to Biden releasing oil earlier.

Yeah that was in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine and Russian oil being taken off the market and of course trying to lower the price of gas before the mid terms in '22

Proprietary_Blend@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 161d

No! Democratic presidents don't control the price of gas!

That's as much as we burn in 9 days BTW https://ycharts.com/indicators/us_oil_consumption

Literally burning money when the sun is right there.

And no one feed me the "well ackshualy solar can't power what we need" YES IT FUCKING CAN. if CORPORATE GREED wasnt a factor and you put the trillions of dollars of resources used for oil and gas to wind and solar, not to mention use the millions of acres of land that are solely used to grow ethanol corn, we could very easily have a utopia. Its 6 rich Fucks that are making all of this impossible by spreading propaganda and keeping subsidies for oil and corn, while offering nothing for renewables. Why? Because the sun is free. Big billionaire pieces of human waste don't like that.

Sorry for the rant.

Approximately 20 million barrels traveled through the strait of Hormuz before the war. Even if the conditions allowed for half of that number to go through now, we are pretty much burning though that stockpile in 40 days. The clock is ticking. Things will be completely uncontrollable in a month long war.

Exactly, and once the reserves run dry there's not going to be an easy way to refill them after either.

maybe this is the closest thing to a timeline we have before iran decides to re-engage the us at peace talks.

either that or it's a timeline for when the isrealis will use a nuke on them.
