Never heard of Inspector Morse, never knew the name for a female goat, never heard of the prefix twi- (and it means 'half' in twilight, not two), and haze is not a hypnotic state by any definition I've heard.

I wonder whether today's is more British leaning than usual? I tend to struggle with the overtly American puzzles.
Inspector Morse, for example, is a classic British TV show that is still sometimes shown in re-runs.
Hypnotic wouldn't have been the word I used to describe yellow but haze clearly fits with dream, trance, and spell as a being in a "fuzzy" mental state e.g. alcohol haze, drug trance, under a spell, dream state.
Also, I'm fairly sure I learned nanny at school.

That very well could be!
Connections often throws in red herrings, so I thought that no way could Javert and Clouseau could be connected. Then I saw Gadget, but simply could not find another Inspector. (OTOH, Clouseau, hootenanny, Moscow, and dioxide all have two O's.)
It does occur to me that I know a nannygoat, but never would've thought of it. Oh well.

I can swear they've done "parts of word animals" before, so maybe that's why it popped out after the inspector category (Morse was a guess in there for me, thought I'd heard his name but never seen whatever he's in, but no other words seemed much like names anyway). Didn't remember a out twi- meaning 2 til I got down to the end. Fun one today

'Haze' is a cute bit of misdirection to a 'code' red herring because it would be the 'Hays' code from Hollywood in the mid century.

Wow, this puzzle defeated me utterly. I got none.

You may wish to revisit that postulation. :)

In American English, we usually pronounce - eau like the letter, O.
remon@ani.social · 1 pts · 160d
Still only one o in dioxide.
SwingingTheLamp@piefed.zip · 1 pts · 160d
Dioxide is literally two O's!
NachBarcelona@piefed.social · 1 pts · 159d
Ot means double or half though.
And this one was a real hard nut.
