One method is writing the text in black, copy-pasting it, then taking copy down a font size and change its color. I am also pretty sure there's a button click to add an outline.
It's a meh tip because the text will contract to the moddle and the overlap will be uneven. There is a proper text outline feature - you select "Outlined and filled" style and then select the line width to your liking:

I'm not a fan of Gimp though. If we talk of free options, Krita is great. It is made mainly for raster art, but it has the vector stuff too. It is much more intuitive, and you probably wouldn't be asking basic questions, just because in most cases it's quite clear how to do something.
Gimp feels like it was made "by designers developers for designers" ;)

Good to see you added the borders. Outlines would also help, there's probably some super easy 3 clicks way to do that in gimp

I'll try that, I don't think I'll do Black outlines but ones that are like darker shades of the colour they surround. Also I don't use GIMP.
