Agreed, studying sociology really opened my eyes to badly reasoned statistical methods (rampant in other fields too).

Speaking in personal anecdotes, I think the ratio of "importance" to "how well it is done", sociology wears the crown.

did y'all ever hear about the time every economist in the world was distracted by bananas for a month?

we all stopped what we were doing to eat bananas and take notes on how the stringy bits came off. just because there was an interestingly written article about what side you should open your banana from in Slate and We Had To Prove Our Position.

i have very little tolerance for the Prove It Brigade anymore since then. can't just enjoy sucking on a banana
