Wouldn't an oil crisis strengthen the case for less reliance on oil, hence net zero?

Yep, but in the world of corpoganda a totally avoidable oil crisis means you need moar oil which will worsen totally avoidable climate change, which will cause mass migrations which, you guessed it, will also be played to the benefit of right wing nutjobs in the press.
