Is this the trend now, europe removing all funds stored in USA? That's gonna be interesting

Would you trust USA?

Betteridge enters the chat

To be fair, I'd say that any country that is storing significant value in another country is probably making a mistake.

USA: “Your gold?”
Germany: “My gold.”
….
USA: “My gold.”

No.

The gold Germany repatriated years ago was not the gold they stored. I would safely assume Germany's gold is not there any longer, and all Germany can get is replacement gold of the same amount and quality (hopefully).

If I were a German central banker, I'd demand it back right now. it's safer in Frankfurt than in New York for sure.

Simon Gruber has said multiple times that the gold is perfectly safe in NY.

Hey, what was the lottery number last night?

melsaskca@lemmy.ca · 4 pts · 155d

It used to be safe in usa but no more. If you analyze the wall sconce by the end table on the left hand side you'll see that the German gold is currently being stored on the whitehouse walls.

The post doesn't explain why didn't they request their gold already. There has to be some benefit in storing it in the US

Moving large amounts of bullion is not easy and carries a significant risk.

At one point we were more secure and in case your country is invaded or couped the new gov can't as easily take/use "your" money if it's not in the country.

For example, the Spanish Republic sending their gold reserves to Russia... Wait, hold on

How many times do we have to hear about this? I am quite sure the premise of, "Die Hard III:With a Vengeance" was about this 30 damn years ago.
