From the thumbnail I thought maybe they were hovercraft of some sort... But nope, its even less "flying" than a hovercraft.

So electric catamarans?
lime@feddit.nu · 15 pts · 133d
hydrofoiling catamarans, but yes

To a layman this might seem misleading. To someone familiar with fluid dynamics it's perfectly accurate. Hydrofoils are wings. And they generate lift. Just in a different medium than most people are familiar with.

yeah "fluid" is a broader term than how most people use it.

Yep, it's a wild thought. But outside of pressure and medium what's the fundamental difference between a blimp and a submarine.
lime@feddit.nu · 2 pts · 133d
well, a blimp is basically an inside-out submarine.

Electric hydrofoil.

Seeing all the "it's not flying!1!!" comments here...
Y'all, it uses a foil to create lift. That's fucking flying!

OK its just 'flying', but still this is what the future looks to me. Clean public transport respecting the environment.

The title makes it sound like they're ekranoplans/ground effect vehicles, or something.

That went great for BC.
