STORY: 6
Meet Killy, a mysterious man with a few words in a future where even the concepts of time and space seem to be lost. His mission is to find a human whose genes have not been altered too much. Those genes are the only way for humans to re-establish contact with the net sphere, a space or entity that is cut from the rest of the world, in order to remove the looming threat of annihilation.
Silicon life, Toha Heavy Industries, Safeguards, the plot can be confusing sometimes, so, if you cannot get in its particular flow, the story for you will simply be “a boy with a big gun goes up a LOT of stairs, looking to repair wifi”.

I read Blame! recently as well, top tier scifi apocalypse.

Basically, Silicon Lifeforms (androids) have run amok and started exterminating humans some centuries ago. The Human Genome has been infected and mutated by a synthetic virus, preventing their authentication with the administrative systems of the self expanding and repairing megastructure they live in. The Administration has limited authority, but its automatic defences to people who try to access the systems without permission are live and insanely hostile, often killing droves of infected human settlements. Silicon Lifeforms are for the most part far weaker than the Administration and want to gain control of it. Kiri/Killy is an old immortal Administration Machine searching for humans with netcode genes who can connect and help the Administration fix things, but he doesn't remember why or how, only his mission: find the netcode gene, and his combat ability, remains.
EXTRA SPOILERY SPOILER:
Kiri/Killy finds an old Genetic Copy of an administrative assistant in an ancient Ark where humans attempted to wait out the Apocalypse, Toha Heavy Industries Spire, and his helper overwrites her own genetic information with it, gains temporary NetSphere access, creates an illegal administration android body, and uses it to house an Embryo of the Netcode Genes and an Administration Android Genes. Kiri carries the embryo to the edge of the complex, over an unknown number of years, gets washed out the drain into a deep water with seaweed, and the Embryo becomes active in a place devoid of silicon life infection. The final panel is one of Kiri guarding a girl in a gas mask as they travel through the complex.
There are several spinoffs but I never read them.

For future reference, if you put your intended post title first and then @-mention the community, then it will render much nicer on the threadiverse side. As it is now, the post came through to the community, but has a blank title because there was no text prior to the @-mention of the community.
Just one of the weird quirks of how the different fediverse softwares interact.

Threadiverse is kind of the informal name given to the subset of fediverse software that has a more threaded conversation structure. So, that would be lemmy, piefed, mbin, and nodebb.
