A driver ran a red light and hit this cyclist. That wasn’t enough for police to show up

Nice response from the local government too.
“A member of the mayor's communications team responded on April 1 to wish Smith a quick recovery, but pointed out that elected officials are "unable to direct or intervene in the day-to-day operations of the Ottawa Police Service."
The city's traffic service branch also responded to tell Smith traffic camera footage is available with a formal request and for a fee.”
TL:dr ACAB

So if you assault someone with a deadly weapon and break their wrist the police don't care unless you take an ambulance ride? What the fuck.

Easy answer, just assault the driver back …POOF the cops are there
If someone hits me while riding my bicycle they had better hope they kill me

Not to belittle the situation but he called the nonemergency line and declined medical attention. Calling 911 may have generated a different response, and I’m not sure why he’d decline medical attention after a motor vehicle accident.

Eh. The situation isn't going to degrade: if the cops show up later, it'll be fine; if he doesn't see a doc immediately, he'll be fine. He said he didn't want to waste ambulance or cop time, which I appreciate.
