Ground News as a Concept I've always found Great! In Execution it has always been subpar tho, especially in regards to European Coverage. Understandable given that its American based and thusly Caters to Americans first and foremost.
Then there is also their Annoying and hidden use of AI. Those Bullet Point that give a quick run down of a Story? AI, even if they seemingly intentionally don't mention it. Issues and Obvious errors are Abundant there, making Ground News for Quick look ups of storys Simply Unreliable and Untrustworthy. In general thier AI Coverage seems to be quite Biased to Positivity, though at this point I may just be Gaslighting myself on that...
So what European Alternative are there to Ground News, if any at all?

Morphreader is a German made alternative with RSS feed integration. BUT It also has AI. The developer plans to FOSS the project for F-Droid in the near future so keep an eye on it.

Either I am completely missing something, or this is something very different. Ground News is a platform compiling different media’s takes on the same news item, comparing them and highlighting potential blind spots. Morphreader looks like a fairly standard news aggregator from its description. What am I missing? Does it also do comparative reporting and is just quiet about it? Am I looking at a different app with the same name?

Yes you are correct. I am sorry, I caused that misunderstanding. I use Morphreader and GroundNews at the moment. The differences are there. Morphreader try’s to give you a sum up on some topics in the payd version. You can then create a custom feed with category priority. But it does not compare different news outlets. This feature is missing and I think it will not come in a short amount of time
