The study’s authors also observed that adults who ate more ultraprocessed foods had an increase in dementia risk factors.

That’s something past studies have also found. A Harvard Medical School study from 2022 showed a 25 percent increased risk for dementia in people who ate higher amounts of ultraprocessed foods.

The term "ultraprocessed" is so useless.

It's no surprise to hear that maybe Doritos or Gummy Worms are bad for your health. But, this story opens with a video of a sandwich with shaved meats, tomatoes, lettuce, onions and cheese, without even any kind of sauce. Surely that's not as bad for your health as other things? I'm sure that some sandwich meats are more processed a baked chicken breast. On the other hand, Italians have been eating Prosciutto since pre-Roman times, is that ultra-processed meat as bad for you as Cheetos?

Prosciutto isn't ultra-processed. It's salt cured and then air dried. Most meats have all kinds of processed preservatives in it that makes it ultra-processed.

I just picked Oscar Meyer since everyone knows the song:

HAM, WATER, MODIFIED FOOD STARCH, SALT, CONTAINS LESS THAN 2% OF DEXTROSE, SODIUM PHOSPHATES, SODIUM PROPIONATE, SODIUM DIACETATE, SODIUM BENZOATE, SODIUM ASCORBATE, SODIUM NITRITE.
