Mine goes down after I screw up, and prevents me from fixing it until later, when it's already been back up for a while & who-knows-how-many people have seen my screw up before I realized I could now fix it
in the past couple of days it seems like LLM crawlers have been ramping up again, with totally normal traffic patterns like these
we're currently looking into trying to identify them better without having to serve everyone with a captcha or something like anubis to access the site.

I usually know exactly when my instance goes down. It's when I fuck up.

Beans: a long-running gag a couple years ago during the great reddit migration of ‘23.
504: back-end server issues that seems to be cropping up lately likely due to increased bot activity.

Lemmy has many servers, with varying levels of uptime, load, and performance.
Sopuli tends to fare much better than lemmy.world.

Apparently, r/enshittification directly links Lemmy.world instead of https://join-lemmy.org/ in its header, and Reddit just really enshittified its mobile site, so there's an influx of people right now specifically to lemmy.world. Cannot imagine that is helping uptime right now.
