I've been travelling a lot lately and am looking for a good way to turn a hotel's TV into a jellyfin client without needing a super long wire from a laptop or something, just plug it into the tv and you're good. LineageOS has some stuff but it seems like everything needs a specific device made at a specific time and specific patch number for some hacky implementation, is there anything that is a good package deal, wont blow the bank, doesn't need much tinkering and will always work? I hate KODI btw, the interface is terrible. Something android related seems ideal. The point is to be as easy and lazy as possible, I get off the flight tired as hell and I want to just slam it into the TV and die a little without fiddling with anything and not get tangled on wires
edit: so far from my own research I think the only reasonable option is to get something like the xiaomi mi tv stick and then run android debloater ng on it

Super long wire? Can't you just put your laptop next to the tv, plug in with a normal 4' or 6' HDMI, and use a Bluetooth mouse or your phone to control it?

basically the issue with this method is i like to travel light and I use my other devices for other things e.g. work, kvm switches, etc which all require their own setup and unplugging and replugging and interrupting my SO's tv isnt great. ive used a usb-c to hdmi cord to get things going via my phone but this whole idea is cumbersome whereas an hdmi stick and remote is a very elegant and compact solution.

I think the easiest, cheapest and laziest would be the Walmart Onn TV box, or stick. The stick is like $20, the box is $25. Boot it up, download "Send files to TV", and then you can send the apks to the TV to replace the bloatware without using a PC or ADB. The first thing you should send to TV is "FLauncher", this will give you an Ad-Free home screen. Then you could probably send FDroid and download jellyfin from there.
Other app recommendations: VLC - can help play some jellyfin videos Keymapper - changes the remote's buttons to launch any other app you want. Smarttube - TV focused Ad-Free YouTube client

If open source is a hard requirement, a second Android phone with whatever you need on it.
If it's not, a Miracast dongle maybe.

yeah i might just load up one of my old phones and replace its default launcher via adb with https://github.com/LeanBitLab/LtvLauncher
maybe i can 3d print some sort of housing that makes the cable mess less of a nightmare, and i'd certainly need a usb hub of some kind to increase its compatibility with remotes.
kde's plasma bigscreen also piqued my interest but it just doesnt look as simple to set up on bad hardware

Can you just pack an Android TV device? Its about the size of a hockey puck but half as thick. + a small remote.

I recommend "Strong". I have their set top box, but I'm sure they have a stick too. It is just android TV though. Jellyfin works fine. VPN too.
