I'm not sure having no coaches is a good idea. A martial arts coach is a perfect example of "justified hierarchy". And you do mark skill disparities as one of the major issues you're facing.
Absolutely agree. Training without proper instruction at beginner levels isn't going to do anything except embed a host of bad habits and poor technique that'll be a nightmare to unlearn later down the line.
Joining the local boxing club was huge for my self-confidence and mental wellbeing. My family suffered a long string of challenges (passing of my mother, another family member with a lot of learning difficulties) and boxing gave me the focus and drive to face everything head-on.
If anyone is reading this and thinking about it, I’d encourage it.
