"I'm going to post about this ongoing war were doing in Iran by directly comparing it to the U.S.'s longest, deadliest, biggest wastes of life and money in the last few centuries. Wars that had such a profound effect that we still feel those effects today."
"Why?"
"To downplay the seriousness of our current (ongoing) war. Actually I don't even call it a war, but an "excursion" to make double sure they know it's not that serious (I'll keep calling it a war on camera though)."
"Do you think that maybe putting it next to those wars might come off as more ominous and concerning than calming? That people will rightfully point out that ALL of those wars had only been going on for 6 weeks at one time and that that fact clearly wasn't an indicator of their eventual seriousness? And moreover that if it starts to become truly comparable in length, scope, and death toll to those wars that this post obviously attempting downplay it will be a point of ridicule much like the "Mission Accomplished" banner of the Bush era?"

Perhaps you can ask the Department of Excursions.
