Atlas mountains where it happened are partially the product of the African plate ramming into the Eurasian plate. Previously they were built up after ramming into the eastern US and creating the Appalachian mountains.

A little bit, but not everywhere. Closer to the Sahara desert yes and Ouarzazate where some famous movies have been made.

But there are also forests with monkeys, mountains, pastures, canyons and cities with busy markets.
