I hate that sinking feeling of regret.

Well done Watterson, very palpable

$75? I'd bet it is closer to $90, maybe even $100.

Hey it was the ‘80s. Cars didn’t hit a hundred bucks till the ‘90s I think.

This comic was from 89. So it would have been worth $89. When it became 1990 it would have been worth $90. Thats how inflation works. Every year things cost a dollar more.

TIL that inflation builds character 😁

Thus, the value of a dollar.

The most popular car sold in 1990 was the Honda accord, which cost around 12,000 brand new. It is totally fair to say that it cost at least $75, maybe even $100.

Yes, 12,000 is definitely closer to $100 than to $75 😁🙃

With Calvin as their kid, it's a safe bet they weren't driving a new car.

I'm reminded of an exercise we did when I was in 9th grade: "Write down how much money you want to make per year!" What a pointless exercise. I had no idea how much things cost. Inflation is a thing. And I ended up moving to an area that was much more expensive than where we lived while I was in school. I'm pretty sure my first real job out of grad school paid more than what I had written down, but I certainly wasn't rolling in cash.
