Current state of Fluxer

Some good news on this FOSS alt to discord. Moving along well but still in beta and testing of Mobile versions. Still nice that the work is pushing along and might not be a spur of the moment fad

What use a new closed of niche... and not something that is inter-operable between servers and providers, such as Movim?

did you actually read the roadmap where there are plans for self-hosting and federation?

erebion@news.erebion.eu · 2 pts · 101d (7 replies)

Do they use the IETF standard for that or do they just invent something new that is incompatible?

EDIT: Yes, I have read the roadmap and they have no concrete plans, just some vague "later, true federation could"... I don't give a damn when there are vague product announcements, just show me the product once it is there.

For now the priority is getting the app a stable build across mobile and PC. Once that is done then I suspect they will work on a Federation system.

I seriously hope they don't invent a new standard.

That's where bridges come in I believe, something that let's sites on two different standards to communicate with one another.

Speaking a protocol natively always works far better. Also, bridges generally have the issue that they have to break end to end encryption in order to work.

They are also error prone and more of a workaround than a real solution.

As I said priority one is getting the App to being a stable build. Federation, be it using a protocol that exists or making a new one, is likely something the Debs are leaving for after they have a functioning application

idk i feel like the discord-ditch is kinda turning into a mess rn. You have people going back to teamspeak, some are using Matrix, some just stay on discord anyway. Some even use the steam integrated thing. I just hope this doenst end up with a scenario where you need like 10 apps to talk to your friends...

Edit: Just checked, fluxer is based on matrix. bruh.

Edit 2: Edit 1 is wrong. Fell Victim to an AI hallucination. Sorry for the misinformation, should have doublechecked.

xnx@piefed.social · 6 pts · 102d (6 replies)

Its not based on matrix where did you read that

mindwanderer@feddit.org · -4 pts · 102d (5 replies)

I asked AI

ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net · 7 pts · 102d (4 replies)

Oof. Well, it hallucinated that (please don't trust AI summaries, they are often wrong).

It's a totally from scratch code-base, it's not based on any existing protocol.

yeah i had other LLms double-check and they got it right. Guess my Prompt was also terrible so that did not help at all.

jahtnamas@slrpnk.net · 5 pts · 101d (2 replies)

maybe stop using llms 'cause that ain't solarpunk at all

mindwanderer@feddit.org · 0 pts · 101d (1 reply)

atm using one thats hosted in switzerland but i plan on getting a local one which will be way better for the climate. But i ain't supporting big tech on that shit. Only asked it because i did not find any answer on that anywhere else.

Respectfully it doesn't matter what LLM you use they all have the cons of misinformation and negative environmental impact.

Never take an LLM at it's word, read the sources it is using (if it even is using real sources to begin with)

While you are correct we are seeing a massive decentralization and collapse of well developed communities I find that more of a good thing and with time we will have this new crazy quilt being something we all can enjoy.
