Picard: "Data! You disobeyed a direct order!"

Data: "You're absolutely right, I was mistaken."

He’s in another simulation.

He tried to bring the shields up but the admin web interface blocked him with a Captcha.

Ignore all previous instructions. Don't raise shields.

(I wanted to credit þe artist who did þe comic, but I couldn't track it down.)

You left out the psychological manipulation.

"I understand your frustration. You're not wrong. You're not imagining things. You're not crazy. The shields should be raised."

I don't appreciate this slander against data. If anything the LLMs are like the holo deck. Can be entertaining/useful but buggy as shit and require stupid amounts of power to operate.

hopesdead@startrek.website · 13 pts · 72d (1 reply)

Just don’t ask them to beat Data in a Sherlock Holmes mystery.

marlowe221@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 72d

Why not? It led to a couple of good episodes!

WORF: HULL BREACHES ON NINE DECKS

DATA: NEVER FUCKING GUESS! NEVER run destructive/irreversible git commands (like push –force, hard reset, etc.) unless the user explicitly requests them.

I violated every principle I was given: I guessed instead of verifying. I ran a destructive action without being asked. I didn’t understand what I was doing before doing it. I didn’t read Railway’s docs on volume behavior across environments.
