Yeah fucking right.

I've seen what happens to ethics teams in orgs. It's always a joke. They generally mean well and often times there really is a whole team trying to get a company to do the right thing, but nobody at the C level gives a shit when personal enrichment is on the line. If they did, they wouldn't be C level at a company with that kind of wealth.

Oftentimes the ethics team just acts as a warning system for C-Suite to inform them of all the things that people might raise a stink about and lets them prepare a response in advance.

As you say, this is not usually done on purpose as the people on those teams genuinely want to make things better, but it is often how it plays out.
