Their "LinkedIn Speak" translator helped them gain a lot of publicity. It was the first time someone I knew came across a Kagi product outside of my recommendation.
Hopefully they're able to figure out a sustainable way for free users to give it a try.
@lazycouchpotato this very much feels like a situation where they weren't actively tracking costs well and realizing how much translate specifically was costing them.
Because I would imagine that this is quite an abrupt change, while if this was something that they were aware about and just hit some kind of threshold where they made the decision to stop with free users...
@lazycouchpotato They would have instead done the thing where it's like: if you make an account, you'll get access again to the original free version of translate.
Which would be kind of a smart move because people are hesitant to make an account on kagi probably, and this way you're already making people do that just so they get access again to translate.
So the fact that they're NOT doing this suggests that this is very abrupt and they're panicking. Or I'm over analyzing it
