@GroupNebula563 @asklemmy @askfedi I've been daily driving Uruky, it's got a long ways to go but progress is being made. (there's definitely a lot of things that #Kagi still does better.)

Been trying to keep track of bugs and suggestions i have

@lazycouchpotato They would have instead done the thing where it's like: if you make an account, you'll get access again to the original free version of translate.

Which would be kind of a smart move because people are hesitant to make an account on kagi probably, and this way you're already making people do that just so they get access again to translate.

So the fact that they're NOT doing this suggests that this is very abrupt and they're panicking. Or I'm over analyzing it

@lazycouchpotato this very much feels like a situation where they weren't actively tracking costs well and realizing how much translate specifically was costing them.
Because I would imagine that this is quite an abrupt change, while if this was something that they were aware about and just hit some kind of threshold where they made the decision to stop with free users...

@InsertUser @unknowing8343 @openstreetmap I honestly kind of doubt that, open street map is to go to the data set to want to try and recreate from scratch.

I do kind of agree I overture maps exists because there are some things that are just difficult to do with raw open street map data as developer depending on what kind of things you're needing it for

@unknowing8343 they're doing fine...?

They have been publishing their data sets and stuff over time.

Anyone who thought the overture maps was going to create their own open street map clearly didn't understand what the point of it was.

The idea of overture maps is that they are going to make it easier for developers to have standardized map data sets to work with. They'll have much less detail in the actual open street map database but there'll be much more standardized

@redd

The images to imgur are backed up in case they get deleted from imgur for whatever reason btw.

And soon :tm: they'll be uploaded to an open source image hosting system but I still need to get that online
