Yellow Lady's Slipper Orchid (Cypripedium parviflorum)

Great Lakes region, USA. June 2026.

One of my favorite local wildflowers. They're quite common this time of spring. I hope I can find some pink ones this year.

My mom has some kind of a drawing or painting of two of these flowers in the guest bathroom at her house. I've always looked at them instead of seeing slippers for a lady, had seen some sort of ladylike face wearing a head covering or mask of some sort and wrapped in some kind of a garment. I'll have to take a picture next time I'm over there of the artwork, but growing up I totally seen a person not some footwear lol

That's interesting. I don't see a face myself. I supposed because I've always known these as lady's slippers I've always seen that. The pink ones look like something else entirely, lol.

Always had these in my childhood yard. Lol.

I think they are endangered.

They're not endangered near me. They just don't always show up. I see the yellow ones every year, while these pink ones are more elusive.

I guess I always seen a female looking type on the top, and a male looking type on the bottom? With maybe a hood on top and maybe a mask or helmet on the bottom.

Yes, I'm a little weird, if you couldn't already tell :p

Or maybe my imagination was a little extra as a kid

Either way, when I found out they were slippers three decades later, it was shocking to me lol
