We don't need drones, we don't need a further inflated military budget to go to war with a hypothetical enemy that isn't readily materializing. We need clean air, water, soil. We need social safety nets out the ass, healthcare, no insurance, actual healthcare. Student loan debt is insane and we're suffering under it's yolk, even after it's paid off with how many lost opportunities it created. Consumer protections, worker protections... We don't need to be blowing up more brown people.
I'm kind of curious when the directed energy tech catches up to drone tech. At some point drones may very well become useless because they can't soak up or dissipate enough energy. It's probably a decade away at the least, but it's on the horizon.

There are no such thing as that class of battleship, and any publication that calls them as such is a garbage publication not worth reading.

But you can't make a drone with parts from 40+ states where's the lobbying money going to come from? Will someone think of the poor congresspeople?

We can already detonate artillery shells while they are in flight with lasers, so we're already there. It's just expensive.
Skyrmir@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 101d
That expense is what keeps them off the battlefield. War is just violent economics after all.

Or we could simply stop going to war for frivolous reasons and use the money for something actually useful

Politicians love a good drone strike.
