A few months ago, I would have said that taking the island would be relatively easy, given the size and strength of the US military, but keeping it would be the hard part.
Now I don't know if we could even take it. These fucking assholes have hollowed out our military.
I thought they were going to take it when sending troops there early in the war, I think that it's too vulnerable to drone and missile strikes to hold nowadays now, or else the navy would've taken it already.
This is another half baked negotiation tactic from the greatest mind in the world, that of our 80 some year old piece of shit president.
They can prevent Iran from using it, if they try to set up a base there, it's vulnerable to attacks.
Most of Iran is a mountain sticking out of the water, meaning any landing force has to arrive on a small sliver of undefended sand and drive single file over mountain roads with drones picking them off, or attack fortified places white being pelted by drones. It won't be a happy casualty count.
Trump says he loves inflation, I'm sure he'll love massive military casualties too then.
Remember this one? The Atlantic published a report citing anonymous sources alleging that, during a 2018 trip to France, Trump referred to American war dead at the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery as "losers" and the Marines who died at Belleau Wood as "suckers".
Probably not tons of casualties. Iran doesn't have any particular need to keep kharg going if they can't export oil, if it's looking like an invasion they'll just destroy the place and a temporary reduction in distribution of oil suddenly becomes much much longer and even more expensive.
If I were dumb enough to be a marine or a ranger, I'd definitely be thinking of creative ways to get a medical discharge right about now. Better to be suckling at the teat of the Va and disability than either dying on a beach or die while riding a helicopter crashing into another helicopter.
