There's a hack where you can just put a carabiner in the door latch and it will register the door as shut and kick on the AC again.

This is just nickel-and-diming from a company with billions in profits. Fuck them, Amazon drivers deserve AC and you are a shit person if you think otherwise.

the AC now runs for up to 10 minutes after a driver exits the vehicle, ensuring a cool cabin when they return. The timer resets at every stop. The AC only shuts off if the driver sliding door is left open for more than 30 seconds — a battery conservation measure.

Closing the door is something that seems like an obvious should-but-won’t-do for most drivers, so I could see this being a good thing to get people to actually do the thing, seems less evil than the headline initially portrays.

These folks are pissibgn bottles last time I checked to make quota. Leaving the door open while hurling packages at your porch, taking a pic, and dashing back isn't good for anyone.

Nor is heatstroke.

It's probably trained more to prevent vehicle and package theft while they're outside the vehicle then to save the environment they're going out of their way to kill as quickly as possible.

I’d never accuse them of being altruistic, I more thought it was a case of incentives aligning where it saves them money on electricity and incidentally is a net environmental positive. We’ll insomuch as it can be a positive given that there’s an Amazon specific delivery fleet that trawls my neighborhood daily for next or same day deliveries to satisfy instant gratification.

So just close the door for each delivery, problem solved. The 2 seconds you save per delivery of having the door open all the time gets cancelled by fumbling with the AC controls anyway.

At least they have AC, the '89 Grumman LLV I drive every day only has a fan that just turns the cab into a convection oven, so I'd rather fumble with controls every time I get back in than not have it at all.

Having not read the article, your comment is incredibly valuable. Thanks! Without that context, it looks like it's bad but if simply closing the door solves the problem, I don't get why there's an article about it in the first place. It should be some best practice for the workers, nothing else.

I'm not saying it's good they're suffering, the solution is literally in the article, just don't leave the door open. I'm glad they have air conditioning and obviously fuck Amazon in general, but the workers can just close the door to avoid that, or as someone else commented just put a carabineer in the latch to trick the truck into thinking it's closed.

Please don't confuse my giving a simple solution for distain for my fellow delivery drivers
