Oh, that's rough. They are the official supplier of the German national soccer team, starting next year.
Germany has a good relationship with Ukraine.
I'm terrible at predicting shitstorms. This has the potential but will probably get ignored. Unless Adidas and Puma pay some PR firm to start one.

if the years of sweatshops didn’t discourage profits not sure why people think this will

Just shows as an image post with a short explanation underneath for me. I do see an article when clicking through to kbin.earth with the fediverse link icon though.

Puts them up there with Adidas!

What did Adidas do?
quill7513@anarchist.nexus · -4 pts · 69d
Adidas was founded in the 1920s in Germany and remained in operation throughout the 1930s and 40s if that helps clue you in

Are Adidas still endorsing nazi parties and idologies? Is that what's happening? Can you explain?

all of the major athletic shoe brands are up to shady shit because they profit from slave labor in the global south.
the only shoe companies that i feel genuinely comfortably recommending:

What about Wolverine/Saucony? I don’t seem to be able to find anything out about their labour or politics practices.
quill7513@anarchist.nexus · 1 pts · 69d
i don't have anything specific on them. i've bought plenty of altra's so clearly i'm not above buying wolverine
adespoton@lemmy.ca · 2 pts · 69d
It’s currently my go-to brand (helps that they actually fit my foot type and terrain use), but as I was reviewing runner manufacturers and their social stances, I realized that while Nike and Adidas are relatively transparent about what they do so they’re easy to critique, Wolverine seems to be more in a “don’t ask / don’t tell” space — which could mean they’re actually just as bad or worse than the others.

I thought it was the puma brother that supported nazis and Adidas bro who then went against puma.

they were both ranking nazi party members

They are just regular black sneakers with a bit of peach coloring. I mean, the guy clearly sucks. Not interesting at all.

Okay, thanks for the negativity. Anybody know any ethical sneaker designers to balance this out?
ski11erboi@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 69d
I recently bought Colombia sneakers earlier this year because they seemed more ethical than the others. Was a little worried about their durability because they're pretty lightweight but so far they've held up well.

If you like this design, check out the designs by their last partner. Helped their multibillion dollar corporation make record profits! And in the end, isn’t that what it’s all about? Blindly supporting which ever titan of capitalism panders to your worldview, as if wearing over-priced shoes constructed with third world sweatshop labor is Marxist because the designer posed for his profile pic in a CCCP shirt?
