"I can't believe I have to say this, but arresting civilians for collecting paint chips and not arresting the people in power for raping children is fucking evil."
The Secret Service, FBI, and CIA are actively busting every attempt at oppositional organizing. Telegram, Discord, and so on are all open books for intelligence organizations, they don't need to get a court order and the Patriot Act gives them free reign. AI increases their ability to sift through all of that information.
Do they read everything? Probably not... but they read enough to consistently stop every attempt so far, and to run counter intel on any movement of size.
In other words, you can't organize online discretely for long. Anything successful must be small, and have impeccable counter-intel. It's not 1776 any longer.
Balkanization is probably our only hope, in my opinion; our debt-based economy will collapse in on itself at some point. Spontaneous revolt of the country? I don't think that can happen any longer, there's nowhere to hide, they are listening.
Then one day, when everyone is pissed past any limit, some event happens that acts as a catalyst and people flood the streets and start taking things into their own hands. And that kinda sucks tho.

It's a really easy country to get away with shit which is why so many take advantage of that. The population is toothless and part of the ongoing indoctrination is that they're free and the best, so there's really no threat from them at all.
The strips of peeling paint from the bottom of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. There have been six arrests by people stealing the paint chips, and now they have fenced it all off.
At least one well-publicized arrest involved former Olympic canoeist David Hearn, who says he merely touched an already-detached section of peeling liner and did not remove or damage it. Other reported incidents include people picking up or handling loose pieces, but it has not been established that all of those arrested were intentionally taking paint chips as souvenirs, but suspected as such by popular opinion.

The old authoritarian playbook. The leader is never wrong. Find a scapegoat at all costs.

I mean.....you don't have to say that. It was implied the moment it happened. Cruelty is the point.

If the people stealing paint chips were in power we wouldn’t be arresting them either.
