I'm glad the cat made it home, but these stories always make me angry that fireworks are even available to the public.
What is the net positive to society? Brief entertainment. The negative? Causes ecological damage, frightens animals, triggers PTSD in veterans, etc. The harm outweighs the good so it should just be unavailable unless it's for a professional show (which I still don't care for but whatever)

Killed my cat. He suddenly became paralysed a few days after NY Eve (which is like WW2 around here) and the vet asked me if he'd been afraid of the fireworks. He'd been so terrified he ended up with brain damage.

That is heartbreaking. Sorry you both went through that

Thank you, exactly. My cat is terrified of fireworks and it breaks my heart to see her so frightened she cannot move.
I get the enjoyment of fireworks, if done well they are pretty, but dickheads who light them in the middle of the night just cause they go boom can fuck right off. Leave it to professionals, that would also mean less injuries to clog up the A&E.
