At the very least, I can be happy that we're not fighting against both economic and social conservatism in Canada.

It's all pink/rainbow washing anyway. It's all fake.

I will put forth that even if what he is doing is fake, as you say, for publicity points it is still a good thing. He is publically showing that he supports pride, and those witnessing the Canadian Premiere taking a stance on social issues will have a harder time squashing those people that need that support.

You have the opposite in the USA as they actively dismantle their social progress.

I believe he also has a transgender child. Honestly, though, most leaders of our parties have participated in pride parades over the years, the Conservatives are the only ones who don't.

That doesn't mean anything. There are women and LGBTQIA+ people out there that have worked against their interests in politics.

Some people love money more than anything else.

The U.S. government and Trump are not good baselines for comparisons. Carney made no efforts to improve anyone's quality of life, including LGBTQIA2S+ people.

And under Carney's latest bill C-12 that was just passed into law, immigrants who want to claim asylum for fearing for their lives in their home country after living in Canada over a year, won't be eligible to stay anymore. That means if someone who identifies as LGBTQIA+, who knows they could face potential violence and death in their country simply for their sexual orientation or being trans, can't claim asylum anymore.

And I won't even go into the whole cost of living and housing and all that, nor how there's no intervention from the federal government into Alberta's blatant anti-trans laws.

Good for Canada! Whether you agree with Carney and his party, or not, you have to admit that it's nice to have a serious person in charge again.

When did we not have a serious person in charge? And what does "serious" mean? Because he seems serious about getting rid of privacy and right to strike.

It was a trump comparison I guess, although Trudeau Junior does not have the gravitas that Carney has, I still liked him. Trudeau Junior was only there as the Liberals needed to dig way back into nostalgia after the sponsorship scandal. But I have to admit, he did a fair job overall. Noting here that we are a long way from firing on all cylinders. A two-party federal system where the libs and cons take over steering from time to time is not a perfect democracy (if one exists).
