Propane tanks have safety valves. There’s basically a spring-loaded stopper in it that prevents gas from coming out if you open the valve but nothing is connected to it. So you need to screw a hose into the valve and leave the other end disconnected, and then open the valve.

They better hope that thing stays upright for the entire discharge otherwise they've got a missile with no control surfaces on their hands.
