I will definitely be making these again.

Those look great. How did they taste?

Fantastic, I was really quite pleased for my first attempt. The recipe was originally for 12, but I halved it for 6... And I wish I hadn't!

Awesome, good job

You must be very satisfied with the result. Well done. May I ask what the dip in the bowl is?

Leftover cheese sauce for brussel sprouts from the other night. Warmed it back up and went great with the pretzels!

there are not many foods I will not eat when breaded, fryed, and dipped in cheese.

Pretzels be boiled in water then baked. I can't say I've heard of a deep fried pretzel, but I'm more than willing to try.

Did you use lye? If so, how did you handle it?

iamthetot@piefed.ca · 1 pts · 54d (4 replies)

No lye!

nocturne@piefed.social · 2 pts · 54d (3 replies)

What did you use in place of the lye?

I have been wondering what I can use boiling my bagels that is more basic than baking soda, but less dangerous to handle than lye.

iamthetot@piefed.ca · 5 pts · 54d

I used ½ cup of baking soda in 9 cups of water.

I have made bagels a couple of times and didn’t put anything in the water except a little salt. I wonder what the lye is supposed to do?

captainlezbian@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 54d

Ooh nice. I love homemade pretzels, but they're just a little too annoying for me to make them often

Lupo@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 54d

Now, take a noodle of pretzel dough, wrap it around a hot dog, do the usual boil, and sprinkle it with everything bagel seasoning before finishing it in the oven.
