The new project, called Hannah Montana Linux v26.0, brings back the internet-famous distro as a Debian-based live system with a heavily themed KDE Plasma desktop. Importantly, rather than being built from scratch, it is a nostalgic remaster that simply updates the original joke for today’s Linux desktop.

This is just called Linux

basically nyarch.
I do not endorse nyarch. I don't particularly
condonecondemn it, but I did not have a good experience with stability. Unsure if it was the shitty pc, the OS , arch being arch or the user.Fizz@lemmy.nz · 4 pts · 48d
You have to wear your cats or the system will act up

We call it CachyOS
Dzheyk@sh.itjust.works · 7 pts · 48d
Ok but unironically I would seriously consider that distro as my daily

What's with everyone's obsession with this mascot? Everyone had it as their goal explosion in Rocket League during a period. I got so sick of it.

Is it popular because they saturated the market with content or vice versa?

She has also been around for a long time at this point, building more fans all the while. Debuted in 2007.

Well, I just don't respond well to the weeb culture I guess. And I'm not really a macho type guy either. I love Scrubs for example, so stoked to be watching the new series right now.
But idolizing these hyper-cutsie pixels, I will just never relate to it. I will never relate to idolizing anyone or anything, I think.

It's not about that, I don't feel any pressure whatsoever. 🙂 I feel very confident in not getting trapped into idolization.
But I'm also curious what the actual point is in wrapping one's life up into someone else's or something else. To be so void of own purpose or self worth to the point of worshipping someone else like a god. Even something that isn't even real.
Not saying that all fans of these types of characters are like this, of course, but some are.

It is silly, unnecessary, and probably not something most people will use every day.
Well now I'm going to unironically use it as my daily driver.

one day, Hannah Montana Linux will become the most popular Linux distro on the Steam Hardware Survey
artyom@piefed.social · 11 pts · 48d
I mean honestly there's not any reason you couldn't. Other than I'm not sure how well it will be maintained.
originalucifer@moist.catsweat.com · 54 pts · 48d
i find this a little insulting
Successful_Try543@feddit.org · 25 pts · 48d
I mean, at the end of the day, it's still Debian, only with a themed KDE Plasma (or LXQt) desktop.
Omgpwnies@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 47d
Which means really as long as the author maintains the themes it should be able to be daily-driven
einlander@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 48d
You mean it shouldn't be run on nuclear launch computers?
DickFiasco@sh.itjust.works · 5 pts · 48d
Probably still better than whatever is running the nuclear launch computers.

With Hannah Montana Linux, God fears you
GrilledCheese@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 16 pts · 48d
This would be better as a stand-alone theme imo
captain_aggravated@sh.itjust.works · 15 pts · 48d
Of course it would, but then it wouldn't be a useful illustrative example when teaching noobs what a distro is.
Widdershins@lemmy.world · 14 pts · 47d
You can run this on the Steam Deck
ID10T@programming.dev · 4 pts · 47d
The Steam Deck really is the best of both worlds
Marija@lemmy.zip · 12 pts · 48d
Haha, that's delightfully nostalgic

Bah, what I really need to know is: What are the difference between this and Miley Cryus Linux?
^someone^ ^had^ ^to^ ^say^ ^it^ /s
prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 3 pts · 47d
I will say that I've never seen them both on the same drive
Bluewing@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 47d
The Miley Cryus Linux has more nudity and tatoos. Blus it takes a Wreaking Ball to your SSD.........
