Following PlayStation’s announcement last week, it’s now XBOX’s turn to dominate the headlines. The American company has announced 3,200 layoffs that will take place in the coming weeks. Microsoft will also refocus on its biggest franchises.
In a video, Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier outlined the details of this new strategy. He specifically noted that the brand will focus almost exclusively on AAA titles based on its major franchises. We’re obviously talking about Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, Halo, DOOM, and Minecraft.

With these layoffs they are effectively creating the indie studios they will be competing against.

It wasnt really independent if microsoft was publishing it. People seem to confuse "indie" and "smaller budget" games.

They really think new generations of players will keep paying expensive subscriptions just to (temporarily) be able to play "their" overpriced and overused old-franchises, AI-bloated, AAA games.
