Johnathan V Last made a good point about this tweet I hadn't thought of.
This was always the most comfortable way to oppose Trumpism: By claiming that it would, necessarily, lead to electoral defeat. Comfortable because it involved no sacrifice. It made a purely utilitarian case against Trump’s authoritarianism. Trumpism is bad because it will cause our party to get destroyed.
It’s also the weakest challenge to Trumpism. Because what happens if Trump doesn’t result in electoral defeat for Republicans? Does that make it good?
Obviously, for Graham, the answer was an easy “yes.” Graham had no objective standards for morality. For him, right and wrong flowed from results. When Trump won the presidency, it meant that Graham had been—by his own definition—wrong about Trumpism.

Completely unrelated to his passing, I will make myself a lovely cocktail and celebrate my own being alive.

I just hope he was right on that. Now with him and McConnell, I really hope we can see some changes.
