Now they'll finally know what REAL Mexican cuisine tastes like!

NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io · 7 pts · 31d (1 reply)

To be fair, it could be sold as Tex-Mex. I don't know if it would work, but theoretically it could.

phutatorius@lemmy.zip · 2 pts · 30d

Tex-Mex can be massively divergent from Mexican food, but at least occasionally it's not crap. So nothing like Chipotle.

Mexicans already scoff at tacos that cost like $6.

They will not purchase $20 burritos

NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io · 17 pts · 31d (1 reply)

I don't know how cheap Mexico is relative to America, but given cost of living differences I doubt they'll be selling $20 burritos.

boonhet@sopuli.xyz · 1 pts · 29d

Yeah if the ingredients and labour are cheaper for locals then they're cheaper for Chipotle too

My chipotle is under 10 bucks ($8.75) for a chicken burrito, got to ask where are you at?

SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca · 3 pts · 30d (1 reply)

$17.50 in Canada.

TIEPilot@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 30d

Dang that a lot for a mid burrito!

...are they stupid?

Sometimes chinese people eat at 'chinese for americans' type restaurants, but I would be surprised to hear if there are any successful ones in china. Maybe tourist areas? Still seems like a poor choice.

The time to open a 'french' bakery in france is now...

A Panda Express in china would be hilarious.

Archer@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 25d

Culinary equivalent of a weird American funhouse mirror held up to traditional Chinese food

yenahmik@lemmy.world · 14 pts · 31d

I don't see this going well for them.

phutatorius@lemmy.zip · 13 pts · 30d (1 reply)

What have the Mexicans done to deserve this?

SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca · 6 pts · 30d

Not enough diarrhea explosivo.

SW42@lemmy.world · 12 pts · 30d

Like dominos opening in Italy

Someonelol@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 11 pts · 31d (1 reply)

This is gonna go about as well as Taco Bell's attempts.

mysticpickle@lemmy.ca · 3 pts · 31d

Americans ate Mexican food, shat it out into a cardboard bowl, and are now selling it back to actual Mexicans. Sounds legit 👍

¿¿¿Pero por qué???

Hey I can see a use case for this

As an European, I could take a trip to Mexico, try Chipotle, then try local food and I'll know exactly how much better authentic Mexican food is
