Child slavery

Real-life version of those movies where a village girl poses as a boy to avoid the dragon sacrifice lottery, but probably worse.

20 years of military actions, lost soldiers and thousands upon thousands of civilian casualties to save the afgans from Taliban, and bring the "so called democracy" only to go a the way back to day zero, and literally hand them back to the same people only this time no one dares to come help anymore, they served their purpose...well done

Yeah, in the West we just sell their sex and labor! 😤

Dyskolos@lemmy.zip · 17 pts · 27d (18 replies)

Oh man, you're totally right. So it's of course bloody fine to make them sex slaves in "marriage". And here I was thinking it was morally questionable. /s (just in case)

And where in "the west" does that legally happen or be accepted by the majority of people due to religion?

Flyswat@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 4 pts · 26d (1 reply)

It's cultural, not religious. You won't find it in the many other countries of the same faith.

They justify it with religion but that does not make it true. The actual shari'a forbids such a marriage if there is harm for the girl. A Qadi (religious judge) is supposed to void that contract even if the father insists.

Yeah, I often heard this "argument". That's also a lot of cultures doing it. Most of them are, you guessed right. So they're "doing it wrong". In their eyes, you do. That's the absurdly stupid with cults.

Also your prophet was a literal pedo, so what? I shall take anyone defending it serious?

UK. But now it's muslim country too.

Dyskolos@lemmy.zip · 1 pts · 26d

There might be a correlation hidden here somewhere 😁

And yeah I've heard how it looks in UK, specially London.

Why would you put words in my mouth? Why sell a child once when you can do it over and over and over again?

The point is, do you listen to anyone who doesn't have their act together? Aren't humans more likely to listen if they see someone who had the same issues found the strength to not only face them, but found ways to not only with will through to end the issues, but also heal at least some of the damage done?

To be honest,I have no clue what you want to say. I want to assume it was somehow meant nice. No offense meant.

Your initial comment just sounded like you wanted to excuse the Pakistani marital rape with western marital rape.

Maeve@kbin.earth · -3 pts · 27d (11 replies)

No I'm saying it's fine to want to help your neighbors, but ffs help your own.

In the context of this topic, you mean I shouldn't care about slavery in country X while I'm in country Y that also has slavery, but hidden and illegal?

That's a bit hard to do when you don't see it. And a lot easier if some 50+ disgusting scumbag marries a 6yr old publicly. Or being otherwise public like this precise post suggested.

That's the same like: stop worrying about the school-shooters (that also coined the term) in the USA while there once was one in the whole of Europe too.

Maeve@kbin.earth · 1 pts · 26d (9 replies)

That's not what I said. Both are problematic and we can and should care. I'm saying people don't tend to care about what someone says when they view the someone as a hypocrite.

Dyskolos@lemmy.zip · 1 pts · 26d

True, although i kinda fail to see the connection to the topic? WHO sees WHOM as hypocrite?

Janx@piefed.social · 7 pts · 26d (2 replies)

You don't have to introduce "whataboutism" unprompted regarding child marriage and pedophilia. We can just agree it's bad without straining to find a western equivalent. The same is true for the reverse...

See the reply I just made.
