Friends of ours are going away for 10 days. It took a lot of convincing from his partner to allow YL to look after their tiny old delicate dog. Tittles has an extensive routine. Tittles is their baby. PLEASE DON'T LET TITTLES DIE ON YL'S WATCH.
*Tittles is not her real name.
**Also means 10 days of partying plus YL has a 2 week job following. I love part time daughter.
In a world of One Uppers and Talk Overers, thank you for this being a safe to share my weird stories. Sorry if I don't talk too much IRL, it's conditioning. May we all have an excellent Friday and a bangin' weekend!!
Do ya think we could use something like /c/tellhimhesdreamin or /c/dalesbargains where we can post good deals that aren't for us? Anyone near Carrum need a food processor? There's a Magimix (same model as mine) for $65 on marketplace. Today's equivalent model - the 5200 - is $1100.
Also a friend has left me a bunch of toiletries (long story) and encouraged me to use them. I am scented today with Fleur de Peau and it is absolutely exquisite.
I looked it up, the full phrase is "ร fleur de peau" which literally translated means "on the flower/bloom of the skin" but is closer in meaning to "emotionally vulnerable/raw/just beneath the surface". It's a play on words to do with emotion and fragrance applied to the skin. Quite cool.
That listens. I did get quite taken aback at the name when I first saw it, and translated it as 'skinflower'. Which appears to be wildly inaccurate. Me bad.
I think I made a new friend through my retail course :3 she's lovely
We both found we're both queer, and she asked if she could come over to charge her phone. But we ended up just having some beers and chatting about retro games lol.
She left her fam in nsw due to them being transphobic, and her and her partner seem to have found it a tad hard to find nice, safe friends. I'm chuffed she saw me as safe :3 young trans women have it so hard ๐ญ she's so sweet and cool and goth ๐ she didn't judge at all that my place is a total bomb looool
Went to a networking event tonight. Was pretty casual and fun. Spoke to a bunch of recent graduates who are just massively struggling to find work though. And smart, funny people .. it's feeling a tad recessiony out there. I am so glad I'm not at that job hunting stage right now.
Part of the reason I'm stepping into the role I am at work is because I fear it's crazy tough out there job hunting and this is just a kind of side step for me. The easy option.
I remember it was hard being a graduate looking for work back in my day too. Employers only want people with experience so they donโt have to invest in providing training, and itโs getting worse. Where do the next batch of people with experience come from if no one is hiring graduates? I also wonder if AI has something to do with it. With lower level type office jobs being absorbed into AI activities, therefore less and less entry level positions.
Listening to music by opening VLC, going "Add Directory", and choosing a bunch of albums to queue up. There might be better ways but this is what I'm used to and nothing beats it.
It's worth doing. I still have all these mp3s I got off my brother who got music off another guy. He was into metal and was a big Mike Patton guy so I think having that library of music helped develop my own taste because there was so much interesting stuff to just find amongst the folders.
It can do it all. I was even using it to convert videos recently when I was having compatibility issues with video editors. It wasn't perfectly consistent though
The classic adage that "If VLC can't open it, you're screwed" still holds true. I haven't sent them any money but I wonder if they have a marketing team I could become part of, I'd love to help get the word out more
Check out Navidrome (server) and Feishin (client). It remembers how many times you have played things and you can also rate the tracks or favorite them then later just play favorites or let it auto DJ. Supports playlists too. Between them they find cover art so you can pick by album cover rather than rummaging about for file names in weirdly named folders. They also find the lyrics and display to help you singalong. VLC is great though for consuming media in odd formats - it will play anything.
I'll look into it. VLC is very straighforward and it's more force of habit. I want to go back to listening to the actual music files I have so anything that makes that easier is appreciated.
I already get ink on my fingers from writing, I was wondering if a fountain pen would be worse. I didn't even know left handed nibs would be a thing, shows how little I know about fountain pens
There's a reason why kids back in the day had to earn their 'pen licence' to use a fountain pen in class. And it wasn't just because they had to be trustworthy enough not to poke out the eyes of the kid in the next seat.
Actually writing with one is dead easy in copperplate or chancery hand, but standard round script is a lot harder with a fountain pen as that script is designed for biro usage. So it depends on what script you were taught as a kid for handwriting.
The real problem with fountain pens is re-filling it. If it's a cartridge refill, that's fairly easy but the consumables aren't as easy to find nowadays. If the refill protocol is from a bottle of ink, then things can get messy very fast as the bladder arrangement inside the pen that holds the ink ALWAYS leaks. Also finding suitable ink, as not all inks are suitable for writing nowadays. A lot of the bottles on sale at Daiso etc. are intended for art/craft/calligraphy, and are formulated differently. eg take longer to dry.
The nibs are important too - the correct nib for the job makes using a fountain pen sooooo much easier. You'll need a pen-wiper of some sort and a supply of blotting paper too.
Best of luck! Fountain pens can be fun but are not really a substitute for a biro for everyday usage. Hard to transport in a pocket or bag too.
I am proud to say that I am old enough that I was (for one term!) an ink monitor for grade 6. That is, I had the duty of arriving in class early and had to fill up all the ink wells from a big glass bottle. There was a special apron in the cupboard with the big glass bottle, and I had to wear it during the task. I doubt that apron had ever been washed as it was stiff enough to crackle and was completely covered in spilled ink.
You can potentially train a straight nib to be left handed if you never share it. Applies to boring old biros too. A 'calligraphy' nib you will need to get a directional one.

Replaced the chairs that were holding the monitors up in the studio with a few hundred kgs of limestone lol.
I really hope the MDF it's on holds.
Unintentionally the light above seems to hit it quite nicely.

Looking from on top.. Trust the bubblez!
For now the bubble is doing the bubble thing.
Will the bubble do the thing a good bubble does?
My guess is let's hope so :)

I remember school desks with ink wells set in them. Thatwas grade 1 or 2 or 3 and we didn't get to use them. Only were allowed pencils.

Great story! By grade 5 time I had been moved to Canberra. Not sure what we used there, proably biros if they had been invented and accepted by 1966.
Pilk@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 38d
The one thing I know about fountain pens is there's a whole culture about really cool inks and they can sell out in an instant. Kinda fun!

yup, less than a fortnight ago daiso brought back ink after 5 years, big shelf of it, I got two bottles, a week later it's sold out everywhere again
