A GIF to use when coworkers try talking to me about the World Cup

I can't keep responding with "Did you see that ludicrous display last night?"

Stargate Atlantis S3E6 "The Real World"

A WebP file that is a higher quality and lower file size:

The world needs more Stargate reaction gifs

I'm definitely gonna be using this when friends start talking about football now

I have a list of potentially GIFable lines that I add to each time I do a rewatch. Every now and then, I finally take the time/effort to actually make a GIF of one of them. I just need the encouragement.

Zorque@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 33d (1 reply)

Do you have one for "You're an idiot every day of the week, why not take one day off?"

One of my favorite lines in the show.

Classic!

I have the dvds, I just need to learn how to make my own lol

And also put the series on hard drive so I'm not relying on optical discs...

Well if you take requests: S10E14, "The Shroud", around 12 minutes in Jack and Daniel/Merlin have a conversation, and around 14m into the episode there are SO many potential gifs.

"Y'know.... That old chestnut is getting a little.... Old."

"you know how much I hate being told what to do."

"You of all people should know, I don't believe anything anyone says even if I know what they're talking about!"

Honestly I love when Daniel and Jack go back and forth like that, it's always great.

  1. For ripping Blu-ray discs, I remember finding that taking the time and effort to set up Automated Ripping Machine (ARM) was definitely the best software. But for ripping DVDs, there may be something even simpler. ARM handles the Blu-ray decryption and whatnot that other software does not handle well. But DVDs do not use encryption, so you may find it simpler to install some other quick DVD ripping software. With that said, ARM has features that make it great for ripping disc after disc after disc, so check out the README and determine if it might be worth the effort to get that set up. Good luck ripping!
  2. When you do have the files ready, here is my tutorial for how I make these GIFs with Kdenlive: https://feddit.org/post/11802992
  3. I do encourage requests! And even if those lines were on my list already, having a user like you request them would just be the encouragement that I need to actually make them. You can expect me to post them here soon. I will be sure to tag you.
  4. I do have one GIF made from that episode. But not that from scene at all:

Sweet! I meant to get the dvd collection for all 3 series when I had the chance, but ah well. I've got dvds dating back to 2007, and I think all of them still work.

I wonder if I could win a legal battle if I got caught torrenting the show since I already have the dvds...

I'll have to check out the tutorial in the morning, I've got some Firefly gifs I wanna make!

SatyrSack@quokk.au · 2 pts · 33d

This is not legal advice, but there seems to be little to no chance of a legal battle from torrenting. Maybe depending on your jurisdiction and how new the media is. It's up to you. It's almost always going to be less effort than ripping the discs yourself, that's for sure. That is about as much as I am allowed to say on the instance this community is in.

What was Wenger thinking, sending Walcott on that early?

kylekatarn@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 33d

The thing about Arsenal is they always try and walk it in.

craftrabbit@lemmy.zip · 7 pts · 33d (5 replies)

Wait isn't it already over? I have no clue...

Wow that's the most fulfilling discussion about football I've had in years

Third place game occurs this Sat, then final on Sun.

sudoMakeUser@sh.itjust.works · 5 pts · 33d

I thought it ended a week ago but people at work are still talking about it.

Zorque@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 33d

I believe the final is about to happen. Then it will finally be over for a couple years.

Can't they play nice and share the ball?

cmbabul@slrpnk.net · 3 pts · 33d

As someone who does in fact know ball, my favorite thing is to chime in about anything sport related at the office, make a case for something no one would ever want(like how normalized sports gambling definitely ain’t influencing the outcome of the game), then go back to feigning ignorance and watch them fight

FreddiesLantern@leminal.space · 0 pts · 33d

Every single day: "so do you follow soccer?"

My response: "No, but I keep up to speed by hearing you guys".

=> 50% chance of them being slightly offended by that. (Like sorry guys, I'm just not that interested)

HubertManne@piefed.social · 0 pts · 33d

but I love that quote. also not a sports person.

njm1314@lemmy.world · -7 pts · 33d (4 replies)

It's really amazing how much time you "sportsball" people spend talking about how little sports intrest you. How much effort is dedicated to letting the rest of us know that you don't enjoy something...

You would think you'd have better things to do

SatyrSack@quokk.au · 6 pts · 33d (3 replies)

Reminds me of when I was in school, kids would often ask teachers "Can I go to the bathroom?" and the answer was almost always "Yes". This one teacher, though, always had some other creative response instead of just "Yes". He would say something like:

  • Affirmative
  • Of course
  • Good luck
  • Godspeed
  • Don't get lost

They would be increasingly creative ways of simply confirming "Yes, you may use the bathroom". And if you would ask why the teacher said something weird instead of just saying "Yes", he would say that gets boring. Instead of repeating the same simple phrase day after day, he came up with a way to actually get a little enjoyment out of the interaction by peppering in a little creative variation.

I find that similar to the creative dismissal of sports topics. After countless times when people try discussing sports with me, it gets boring to simply say the same pnrase "I'm not interested in sports" over and over. So, to get a little enjoyment out of life, I try to come up with some little variations to shake up the interaction.

njm1314@lemmy.world · -1 pts · 33d (2 replies)

Sure and I would get that. Except then you went and made a meme about it. Which is kind of different isn't it? That's not responding to a person at the water cooler.

SatyrSack@quokk.au · 6 pts · 33d (1 reply)

Did you see the title? I made this GIF so I can send it as a response to "virtual watercooler" conversations at work. And I know other people here also have those same interactions at work and also want some variation, so I am sharing this file so other people have it ready to use when needed.

njm1314@lemmy.world · -1 pts · 32d

Yes. You took the time to make a gif. You care so little I can see that now...
