In Troy (2004) Achilles effortless defeats a much larger and heavy warrior through seer skill. I've never anybody claiming that his size makes that scene bad or unrealistic.
It doesn't matter, he already made his money from the faux outrage he and other right wing grifters successfully generated. Whether his predictions are accurate is irrelevant because he doesn't have a reputation as a real film critic to uphold and the social media debate cycle is so fast nowadays that he can immediately pivot to a new "controversy" and start milking that.
It'll do fine, it still won't make it a good movie (nothing to do with that) it'll be a typical Hollywood pander film, big visuals, little substance. Oppenheimer was praised for being a mediocre piece of crap.

Who cares what random nobodies thought. None of the actual big voices in the industry who know what they’re talking about said it would flop. Everyone with half a brain knows a Nolan film in 2026 is going to be a financial smash hit.
I liked it, but I found it visually disappointing. No gods except Athena, Sirens boring, Hades boring, Circe boring (except the transformation scene, that was sick).
I highly doubt that. I haven't seen it yet but Nolan uses vfx in all his films. As he should, people who think "CGI always sucks" never know how much CGI is used that they don't see.
And yet, $250 million budget for practical effects. Could have saved money on CGI, which is a bonkers thing to say.
Unless the movie is Star Wars or Avengers: Endgame or Avatar, nobody should be spending a quarter of a billion dollars on a movie. Dune 2's budget was $190 million, for a sci-fi epic, with a proven audience. This is just a fantasy story.
Making the budget on debut is incredible lucky, but it might still be considered a "flop" because of the extra $200M or whatever of marketing budget.
Christopher Nolan is his own brand that has a proven audience. In a sense, Universal paid handsomely to poach him from Warner Brothers, and giving him big budgets is part of that deal.
And he has yet to disappoint or not make money so it's working fine. It already made over $260 million globally and the weekend isn't even over yet. It will absolutely still be the biggest movie to see for the next several weeks so it did it's job. Sometimes I feel like there isn't one thing on Lemmy that people can't find something to complain about! I can't wait to see it still, but there were no good seats at any theater near me when i finally decided to go. Next weekend it is!
Anytime I look up a forum thread of a movie I'm watching/wanting to watch (spoiler-free), at least half of the comments are "this movie was trash and you should feel bad for liking it."
And the other half feel the need to justify why they liked it to the half that hated it for reasons they literally can't put into words (if they do it's always the most contrived/overused excuse in critiquing).

People, including the directors etc, claimed that vecna in stranger things was “100% practical, no cgi”. They claimed that there was no cgi in top gun maverick. The truth? Yeah they filmed practical things, but then replaced literally the entire things with cgi.

Translation "please don't pirate this movie. I know everyone prefers to just watch it at home in their underwear to having to deal with those kids in the back talking and the risk of getting long covid. But, please, think of our million dollar salaries."
I have no problem with that. My problem is that it is fantasy set in a real time in human history, and it deviates from that source it is based on. It is an adoption of a great work of art and it fumbles with the details.
It was a pretty short clip. He and some other big name actors apparently made fun of Robert Pattison because he wanted to read through the script before giving an answer. He said he and the others just said "yes" the moment they got the call.
I'm sure he read it eventually--at least his lines, but I have no idea of the timeline.
