Remember kids. Bangs are cool, but giving yourself bangs is a recipe for disaster.

gandalf_der_12te@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 14 pts · 32d (1 reply)

bangs are cool but have you ever heard of shebangs?

#!/

pirc_lover@feddit.uk · 6 pts · 31d

shebangs? Good for her.

hildegarde@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 22 pts · 33d (3 replies)

She went from looking like an awkward computer science major to literally taylor swift. wow

Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works · 45 pts · 33d (2 replies)

The haircut is very lovely, but she also took off her glasses and she or someone there did a good job on her makeup. I just hope she's either comfortable in contacts or was just hiding behind the glasses because being able to see is important. Another option is putting the glasses back on, because there's nothing ugly or unfeminine about wearing glasses.

QuinnyCoded@sh.itjust.works · 20 pts · 32d (1 reply)

I feel like a pretty pair of glasses would help, the old ones don't look that feminizing on her

mine helped a lot :)

Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works · 9 pts · 32d

Yes I agree that's what she should do next.

erinmeow@piefed.blahaj.zone · 21 pts · 33d

bangs r cool

KernelTale@programming.dev · 7 pts · 33d (5 replies)

I will just grow it out until it touches the floor.

applebusch@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 10 pts · 32d (4 replies)

that may not be possible if your head hair doesnt have the mutation that makes it grow perpetually. the thing that determines maximum hair length is the growth rate and the duration of the growth phase of the hair growth cycle. most people have a maximum head hair length, they just might never grow it long enough to find it. if you tried to reach the floor you would probably find your hairs limit first, unless you happen to be lucky.

AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 32d

Just bend over until your hair touches the floor.

gandalf_der_12te@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 4 pts · 32d (2 replies)

yeah i read up on wikipedia yesterday, coincidentally. hair grows around 15 cm per year and for most people it grows for 2-8 years before it stops, so maximum hair length would be 30 - 120 cm.

Taleya@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 32d

I think i might be the exception that proves the rule

captainlezbian@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 31d

30 cm is nuts how short it is. Wild to think some people can't grow hair to their lower back

JustTheWind@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 31d

Just needs an electric guitar and a heroin addiction and that's an 80s rock-star in the making.

captainlezbian@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 31d (2 replies)

I will continue to resist the siren's song of bangs, but I do need to find a more eyeliner heavy look that I like because dang everyone looks good with that

QuinnyCoded@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 31d (1 reply)

I find pencil eyeliner the easiest, you can smear it around but you can't feel it like crayon eyeliner (plus you can use it on the waterline!)

though I do have some sensory issues, idk if anyone else cares about the feeling like I do lol

captainlezbian@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 30d

That's good to know, I've always been a liquid eyeliner girl, and have worried about how pencils will work with my contacts (can't see close enough to do makeup without them) and just tightline

IPeaceInYourFace@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 32d (1 reply)

Well... I'm gay now. That's one pretty dude.

magic_smoke@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 15 pts · 32d

You don't know their gender, you could very well still be straight.

Unless you actually just like dudes and this isn't your first time thinking it lol.

I think someone needs to eat a bit more

wow rude. maybe keep those thoughts to yourself. they certainly arent welcome here.

applebusch@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 39 pts · 33d (1 reply)

you have no idea what theyre going through or what their situation is. you dont know if theyre healthy, or even how much they eat. youre making assumptions based on your own biases and publicly shaming someone for not fitting within them. its not cool or helpful to them, and actively harms others with a similar body type. how would you feel if you were doing everything "right" and people still shamed you and told you to do what youre already doing? whether you agree with me or not is irrelevant because your position isnt welcome here.

edinbruh@feddit.it · 11 pts · 33d

You are right, I was being arrogant

OrganicMustard@lemmy.world · 17 pts · 33d

Those comments help no one, they do harm more often than not.

ComfortableRaspberry@feddit.org · 9 pts · 32d (15 replies)

I'm underweight because of health reasons. Lost 10 kilo (45 kilo 163cm now) about 6 years ago because the doctors decided I have an eating disorder and therefore it took months for them to realize I actually had a raging gastritis.

My digestive system never properly healed and I have a hard time gaining even a little weight. It's exhausting, and I'm often sad since I still have a lot of clothes that just don't fit anymore and I don't like the way my body looks.
That's why eating until I feel like I have to throw up has become more common but still no luck. And just a few stressful days are enough to lose half my progress again...

All help I get from doctors can be boiled down to: just try harder and eat more. It's not that easy.

edinbruh@feddit.it · 7 pts · 32d (1 reply)

I'm sorry. It wasn't my intention to shame you. I hope you can heal

ComfortableRaspberry@feddit.org · 6 pts · 32d

Don't worry! I know your intention was good and right. It was just meant to show you that even these things have nuance and that they usually look easier from the outside.

Even eating disorders are usually more than just "oh I want to be thin".

NihilsineNefas@slrpnk.net · 6 pts · 32d (7 replies)

If you need to just pound calories as per the "professional" doc's advice of 'skill issue. Just eat, what are you, suffering from a painful digestive issue or something smhmyhead' I may have a solution

DIY soylent; super simple thing, if you've got a decent blender and access to flour, honey, butter/oil that's not canola or engine, and a health foods shop or pharmacy that sells supplements, you can pretty much make your entire day's calories into a drink and any extra food you manage to eat is a bonus.

Blah463@thelemmy.club · 4 pts · 32d

The canola or engine comment made me cackle first thing this morning. Thank you internet stranger

gandalf_der_12te@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 3 pts · 32d (3 replies)

btw this might not work for everyone. i for example can't drink soy milk / certain soy products. some kind of allergy i think? anyways, fermented / cooked soy products are fine, so fried meat-replacement soy stuff is good and dark fermented soy sauce too.

ComfortableRaspberry@feddit.org · 3 pts · 31d

Same for soups. When I had that spinal tap go wrong last year and the headache felt like I'm about to die, soup was my savior :D

NihilsineNefas@slrpnk.net · 2 pts · 31d (1 reply)

Luckily soylent that you make yourself doesn't contain any actual soy, can't speak for any of the store bought ones, but think its more of a brand name rather than being descriptive of the contents

gandalf_der_12te@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 2 pts · 30d

I know the feeling, unfortunately managed to trick my brain into a state of "don't eat" until I started getting physically ill, but having something to just sip away at means you don't overload your stomach and can trick your body into absorbing nutrients anyway.

applebusch@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 5 pts · 32d (3 replies)

before i came out to myself i had a couple tries at body building, so i learned a bit about techniques for bulking. one of the more, lets say aggressive, options for a very dirty bulk is to get calories via liquids. stuff like sugary soda and milk shakes, but i think they also have meal replacement shakes that also have a bunch of protein and fat so its not all empty calories. its much easier to get a lot of calories that way which is why the first thing they recommend people cut out for weight loss is liquid calories, because it doesnt feel like youre eating anything but youre getting a ton of extra calories. like one milkshake could have 1400 calories, but it doesnt feel like you ate anything so you also eat a full meal on top of it.

im curious if you've tried that and how it went. im not sure its something a doctor would learn or tell you so figured id mention.

ComfortableRaspberry@feddit.org · 7 pts · 32d (2 replies)

I can't digest fructose anymore. Most of those shakes give me violent diarrhea because they use cheap sugar or substitutes that include sugar alcohols and I'm losing more than gaining.

I then went ahead and made my own by buying maltodextrose and mixing it in my other food or making shakes when I felt too nauseous to eat. But no luck.

The biggest issue is that I rarely see the upper end of the Bristol stool chart. My body isn't properly digesting anymore. I also have a lot of malnutrition issues (vitamins D3, B12, folate, iron, biotin, potassium, ...) that again fuck up your digestive system. Leaky gut is obviously a problem too.

Then I have other issues that cause fatigue and make me very easily affected by stress. The best fix would be to not work for a few months, get my micro biome back on track and gain weight. But I can't afford that for the next years so I have to keep going.

applebusch@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 3 pts · 32d (1 reply)

dam... that sounds like a really complicated issue for sure. hope youre able to get through it at some point 🫂

ComfortableRaspberry@feddit.org · 5 pts · 32d

I'm not alone and that makes it easier most of the times. Things could be a lot worse and though I sometimes feel like it, I'm not willing to give up. One day I will grow out of my current wardrobe and it will be a great day :D

gandalf_der_12te@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 2 pts · 32d

from my personal experience, i've had difficulty eating for a long time as well. (swallowing disorder. some kind of psychological stuff). anyways, what i've found was that drinking milk is a good and easy way to gain calories if you can't eat solid food.

lyralycan@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 33d (2 replies)

Well you hit a nerve. But I for one think it's a good thing to worry and care about the wellbeing of others, even if you're wrong about the assumption.

And yes you absolutely are "welcome here", as you're a human with valid opinions and this is a social site, where humans come to share opinions.

And it looks like the other commenter has a consistent issue with their emotions, particularly anger. I hope they find a way out of it, perhaps by meditating a few minutes a day or looking at something pretty.

applebusch@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 9 pts · 33d (1 reply)

do you not see how patronizing and arrogant that position is? "im going to tell you what to do to fix a problem ive assumed you have and you should be grateful even if im totally wrong". maybe you should fuck your mom about those feelings of wanting to fuck your mom youve been having. dont get mad at me im just looking out for your wellbeing. cant you see how well meaning im being?

zip@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 2 pts · 31d

I do not know you, but I fucking love you. You absolutely rock. <3

i think someone needs to take vitamin D supplements.

see, i can also make assumptions based on a single unverified data point.

gandalf_der_12te@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 7 pts · 32d

that amount of weight is not unhealthily low, i think. sincerely, a person in the similar weight range.

idk where this american philosophy comes from that everyone has to be almost morbidly obese or they're "underweight".

DaPorkchop_@lemmy.ml · 3 pts · 32d

They look bulkier than me and I eat like 4500 kcal/day w/o exercising, some people are just skinny as fuck
