Ulver is a very very strange band

90's lo-fi black metal to electronic is a weird trajectory but I'm here for it. Enjoy this visualizer, sorry but it's a youtube link

I would be really interested in any bands going the opposite direction

TBH it isn't that unusualy to get more electronic and less metal over time, such was the case with Korn and The Birthday Massacre

Combichrist sort of went that way. Still very electronic. If you listen to their older stuff it was very synth/glitch electro. 2013ish they started adding a lot of guitar and went more metal. Over all it isn't a huge tonal shift. Compositions are still very similar. Honestly that's about the time I really stopped listening to them much. I didn't care for the direction they were going..........well that and Joe Letz unfortunately.

Conversely TBM, I liked their early stuff. But the more synthy they went I just liked them more. Though I've noticed they've started adding guitar back in more in the last album or two. Still all good stuff. 🤘

Really? Because that's a thing happening a lot in the dubstep scene lately. The last group I went to a festival with were all mad because of dj's bringing "all this satanic shit" into the genre. It (probably) won't ever get to the point of fucking up the audio fidelity of their recording but there's flamethrowers, pentagrams, and growling involved. Here's my favorite artists who are doing it so far:

Phaseone

Kai Wachi

Sullivan King

How can anyone NOT like this? lel...

Paradise Lost went from death/doom to synthpop and then all the way back again, if that counts

Not a group style switch. But Adam Skog has had an interesting arc. Previously being in two Swedish black metal bands. ( Vanhävd Vapenlicens) Now solo as Irving Force, who has gone a lot more synthwave . But still gets plenty of thrash in from time to time,

Woah, that really fucks though. I LOVE when he drops the blast-beats in there.

Indeed. Gutter Cruiser is a blast of a track. And I definitely am a fan of the rest of the work. Has a great cyberpunk vibe to go with Faderhead's recent stuff.
