He didn't make that money by manufacturing selfie sticks. He made that money by owning the factory where workers manufactured selfie sticks, and that planet full of gold represents money the workers earned, but didn't get to keep.
Yo it says he lives in a planet by himself. So he HAD to make them all himself, and either he had to build inter-planetary rockets himself or this other society that wants selfie sticks so bad (but apparently can't make their own) had to travel across space to get them...?

This would have interesting gravitational effects.

Why? If you can make a planet out of gold you can make it however big you want.
LibertyLizard@slrpnk.net · 5 pts · 31d
Well I guess if you start with the gold first and don't ever change the amount. It would have to be much smaller though because gold is so dense.

Oh it's a vault not just solid gold. I see what you meant now. Presumably it'd be built mostly full.

Yeah, unless he made all those sticks himself, he's just taking every dollar and leaving 5 cents.

Maybe the planet he lives on all by himself isn't the planet the selfie sticks were manufactured on?

The selfie sticks had AI and crypto built in.
He actually only made money on the IPO.
coolansplanet@lemmy.today · 1 pts · 31d
hahaha, AI and crypto would break the innocence of this kind of retro Sci-Fi story ^^

Gold isn't that rare if you have cheap space travel. Although planet sized is a decent chunk.

The impracticality of transporting planet sized volumes of gold across the galaxy seems like a big problem for its usefulness as money
coolansplanet@lemmy.today · 2 pts · 31d
There's a shortcut for that, and will be shown in future episodes

I hate to say this... But bullion is the correct word. Bullions is not the plural, it has a different meaning.
coolansplanet@lemmy.today · 4 pts · 31d
crap, I'll have to make a second fix now 😠let's use our imagination and pretend that we're reading "bullion" there, haha ^^

It would have been funnier with a reference to the treasureplanet I think but well, the reference is kinda there.
