In MT's latest rant about gaming, they seem to forget:

1. Proton is actually Wine, and patches from it go upstream.
2. Wine is also maintained by Crossover office, and in the past, there were even development companies like Transgaming / WineX which had their own patches.
3. If Steam disappeared, it does not break Wine or proton (just less patches). Any good patches would likely be merged directly back to the main wine tree
4. Windows is proprietary and closed source. If Microsoft goes bankrupt, your games won't work elsewhere (except Wine) anyway
5. If Microsoft locks down the kernel more (which has been discussed due to crowdstrike), Kernel-Level anti-cheat might break even on windows.
6. The conversation they posted doesn't make a huge amount of sense, because they forgot to mention, they took it from a GOG post.. Context was missing

Finally, even the claim that "half your library won't work", is pretty weak these days. There are very few games (even windows EA games), in my library (I have hundreds), which don't operate correctly.
