This is pretty common with just-getting-started communities like this one. You usually only have one or two people posting content until the group grows.
Please post more if you have any. The more the merrier!

Thanks, I'm just to figure out some things around here. I will help with the communities when I can. What was weird for me is that this community doesn't feel "just getting started", because I get tons of posts in my front page and it seems that most posts have a good number of comments.

Individual communities don’t get that much traffic. Using All and filtering instances/communities you don’t like is a good way to keep a scroll going.

Literally how I ended up here, it's great for finding new communities whenever they pop up, like this one, for example. Also interesting to keep some tabs on Lemmy as a whole, given that's totally possible here.

It could also be that this community was later to the game, and other communities are/were already covering the same kind of content.

Sanitation is essentially a bot automatically reposting content from Reddit. None of their posts are organic.

I kinda hate accounts that blur that line between user and bot. Sanitation especially, he ran automated posting tools on his account, never properly disclosed it was a bot, and never marked the account as a bot.
They've been banned from at least one instance so moved in to others.

You have 3 posts in the last 11 months and you're lecturing someone else about contributing?
I'm actually posting content that gives people something to read, discuss, or ignore. You're contributing... what, exactly? Complaining that someone else is doing the work you won't.
If you think the feed is "flooded," the solution is simple: post something better. But that would require putting in more effort than writing insults.
Calling me "a bot made of meat" is especially rich coming from someone whose contribution history is indistinguishable from an inactive account. Spectating isn't the same thing as participating.

You're right, I should spam 100 posts per day without even reading them. This would be a much more substantial contribution than participating in discussions.

I don't want to take anyone's side here, but there is a big gap between "3 posts in 11 months" and "100 posts per day". Maybe if you (and others) stepped up and made the effort to post once every day to a niche community you like, then there would be less of an incentive for sanitation to have automated posting tools?

At this point I'm starting to wonder if you're a Reddit agent provocateur.
Because if my goal were to keep people from adopting Lemmy, I'd absolutely spend my time telling one of the few people actually posting content to stop posting, while contributing almost nothing myself.
Thankfully, I don't actually think you're a Reddit operative. I just think you're making a bad argument.
If you want a better feed, post better content. That's how communities grow.

I see comments from the account as well, so I'd be on the fence about calling them bots.
I don't mind people having some automation to help a community grow, I just think that maybe the pace could be a brought down a bit?

They are a real user who uses automated tools to mass “crosspost” content from Reddit.
The problem is, they’ve muddied their account to the point of both being a bot and a user. IHMO that makes their account a bot account with a user who chimes in sometimes. If they don’t want to be a bot account, they shouldn’t be running automated tools on it.

That's exactly my setup. I use automation to schedule posts, but I use the account myself for comments, discussions, moderation, and everything else.
You can dislike high-volume posting, but that's a separate discussion from whether the account is a bot. Even Lemmy.World's own policy draws that distinction.

I don't mind reposts from Reddit, and I don't even mind the automated set up. I just think it needs to be toned down a bit so that it gives the chance to others to contribute as well.

My only complaint is that they aren’t properly tagged (imho) as a bot account. I blocked them soon after they said what they were doing because my entire feed was 95% them, including stuff like “I don’t understand this tool”

@jnod4 The moment this community gets 400 posts a day like reddit's /r/pcmasterrace - ill stop posting, fuck - even less - if this community gets to at least 20 a day and Ill stop posting.
until then - its hard to make a case that my 5 posts a day is a problem.
people complaining do seem awfully like reddit agents however. would certainly benefit reddit if lemmy conent is cut

Im not a bot - This isn't a bot issue - it's an activity issue.
If you look at the community, there are barely any submissions from anyone else. The only reason my posts dominate the front page is because I'm one of the few people consistently posting there.
I'd honestly love for that to change. If more people started sharing builds, news, benchmarks, or discussions, the front page would naturally become much more diverse.
So rather than assuming "bot," the better takeaway is: this community could use more contributors.
you're assuming there's a crowd of posts being buried. There isn't. The community is simply very quiet. I'm posting because almost nobody else is. If more people participated, my posts would quickly become a much smaller percentage of the front page.

I am not assuming bot, and I agree that the rest of the community needs to step up - I said so in the post.
What I am saying is that you are flooding the channel. By rushing to post/re-post any content that you find, you also reduce the chances for other people to post as well. Maybe I am the first one to point that to you, but who knows how many other people saw the community page dominated by one single poster and felt discouraged to contribute?
Try cutting it down to one post per day, and I promise I post one link every day as well.

I disagree. The numbers do not support cutting active content to one post per day.
Since I started posting, this community averages 5.6 posts per day. I contribute 5.35; every other account combined contributes 0.26.
A one-post-per-day cap would cut the community’s actual activity by about 78%, from 5.6 to roughly 1.3 posts per day, unless other people consistently replace those posts. Promising to post once a day is not a replacement for the existing volume.
Reddit already produces far more content:
r/pcmasterracemade 50 posts in one 3-hour-41-minute window today. Lemmy had three posts that day at the time measured.Reducing Lemmy content while Reddit is already dramatically more active widens that gap. If you want more contributors, contribute. Do not make the active community less active based on a hypothetical.

You are not doing an apples-to-apples comparison. You are reposting anything from Reddit, minus memes and OG. Also, they have millions of users, this community has thousands.

your suggestion is designed to keep lemmy tiny wihtout content and way behind reddit numbers. so when people want to switch away from reddit - they cant.
contribute if you want, otherwise it sounds like a reddit agent stirring fake outrage trying to corner marketshare

My suggestion was to let other people step up so that we can have an actual community instead of being dominated by one loudmouth carrying a boombox.
You had my sympathy in the beginning, but you completely lost it by continuously calling me "Reddit agent". I would report you, but it seems this community has no actual moderators, so I am just going to unsubscribe and find some other place to post.
