However, none of this is hard from a developer's perspective. You just need to provide the server executable(s) to the public and add a .ini configuration to the client to specify which server URL to use instead of the default one.
All the different lemmys (by default) will show up for all the others. Though some lemmy servers block specific other ones from syncing with their instance. Notably the tanky-heavy lemmy instances tend to get blocked.
If you go over to hexbear (a lemmy instance), you will hear significantly more people tell you Russia invading their neighbors in wars of conquest is good, actually.
I decided to buy as I don't need to move around much, and I vastly prefer fixing stuff myself rather than paying for someone to do it for me. (When other people fix shit, it's either expensive or sub-par)

Linux Mint has a full install guide that goes into detail on every point with the click-through links. They are a real good source for people who haven't done this before.
My suggestion to people is to install Linux on a computer you don't use every day (old laptop, etc) and during installation have it be the only OS (ie, not dual boot with Windows). After awhile when you feel more comfortable, install it on your main machine. This lets you learn at whatever pace you desire.
Are you resetting your cookies or doing this in a private window? That setting lasts as long as your cookies for the site do (as that is where your choice is saved).
Mostly because build times are slow. If you have a stockpile you can make a big splash right off the bat, and keep the tempo up while drawing both from new stock and from stockpiles. Once you are only hitting with just-made arms, your tempo is greatly reduced.

Edit: And yes I realize PC generally doesn't have disks either. However, you aren't locked into PS' store and things like GOG exist. I make a point to buy games on GOG, and so should anyone interested in OP's boycott.
